4.4 Earthquake Shakes Victoria: Did You Feel It?

Gizmodo AU

I’m in Sydney, so I’m relying on you guys to say what it was like. What I do know: The world’s top seismologists just happened to be in Melbourne for a geophysics summit. Coincidence or conspiracy? Hmm…

A screenshot from the government’s Geocience Australia web site.

Those crazy members of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) bringing earthquakes with them and stuff! The 15 second quake struck near Korumburra at 11:32am, and is said to have shaken buildings. Reports suggest it was also felt across Melbourne’s suburbs and as far as Victoria’s south.

More at Google and here on Giz as news come to hand.

Yep, out Knox/Scoresby way we felt it – stuff rattled on shelves. It’s always unsettling when your house starts creaking and cracking.

Adelaide had an earthquake acouple of years ago, i think it was the same intensity. 4.4. All i heard then is a rumble and the ground started to shake but it only lasted a few seconds…

Oh well… nothing major is damaged and no one is hurt, thats the main thing.

My monitor also shook – thought it was the high winds shaking the house.

Felt the quake, have felt stronger in Melbourne though. I live near a train line and thought a heavy train might have passed or maybe derailed. Felt minor aftershock just a little while ago. It’s more noise than movement.

Yeah, I felt it too. I was a sleep in my bed and felt it moving. I immediately yelled at my dog to get off my bed, but he was outside.

I felt about 3-4 shakes, then a 1-2 second mouse, then another 1-2 shakes.

Collingwood: My wife was laying in bed (sick). She felt it. I was in the next room and had no idea.

Nothing like the Japanese quake though – which we felt as we were in Niseko at the time.

Didn’t notice, but then again, in the high-rise I work in the floor shakes when fat people walk past my desk.

I was on the toilet, so what I felt may not have been the earthquake.
