Turns out Twitter is the best possible way to get updates on mobile firmware upgrades. Tipster Ben Hersey pinged Vodafone’s Twitter account to find ut when he might get Gingerbread on his Desire HD. And he got an answer.
We’ve just finished testing for 2.3 and will have more news soon. ^ZO
While that doesn’t offer anything new in terms of release date for the update, it’s still good to know that the Telco is past the testing phase, which is generally the biggest delay in rolling out OTA updates.

Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 12:47 PMExcept Vodafone probably did no testing. They just strung the release out for as long as possible to see how many people would buy a new phone just to get the update.
I very much doubt that Vodafone has a horde of munchkins testing Android to see how it works with their network, given how bad their network is to begin with.

Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 1:30 PMCan’t wait.
A little off topic, but my wife recently got notification that her Legend (voda) could get updated OTA. When she accepted the update, it was denied because her SD was full. Now I have cleared some space but can’t re-start the download.
Have tried menu->settings->About->System Software Update->Check Now, but apparently no updat available.
Did she miss out?

Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 4:02 PMMaybe it’s a false alarm…. I’ve upgraded to Android version 2.3.3
Still better than what I had, but not version 2.3.4
Is there more to come?

Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 3:45 PMJust upgraded, it took about 10-15 mins including downloading [approx 100mb] and flashing, and then an extra slow reboot.
Can’t see much difference apart from an extra settings tab in the pull-down status bar.
Just make sure you’re connected by USB or Wi-fi otherwise the download will take forever.

Sunday, June 5, 2011 at 6:58 PMHTC Desire HD 2.2 Froyo to 2.3.3 Gingerbread by Internet pass through, perfect! HTC Sense 2.1 and 2.6.35.10 Kernel.
Regarding SGS, I’ve stock Italian 2.3.3 on a Galaxy Tab (Telstra P1000T WiFi/3G). Desire HD update most simple procedure. Well done 2 engineers :)
Galaxy S GT-i9000 due for 2.3.x official updates. Galaxy Tab is running official firmware not XDA Hamster Bread.
