It’s even more impressive in HD:
The plane appears to be leaving Shanghai, which is weird, because that doesn’t look like the usual trajectory and angle for a normal commercial aeroplane on that route. How was it taken? Either the pilot has a very long arm, or the plane had a rig with the camera attached to the front. Perhaps it’s a publicity shot for some airline. Or maybe it’s all a great Photoshop job. [Thanks Richard!]

Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 8:27 AMIt definitely photoshopped. There would be heat distortion or vapour trails coming from the engine at the very least.
Still a beautiful picture.

Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 8:31 AMHmm… looking at the HD one, and the fact it would have had to fly VERY close to some of those towers to get in that position, and that there’s no runway to be seen… is it a render?
I’m gonna go with a render placed on a photograph. Absolutely gorgeous though.

Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 8:40 AMI think its Photoshop – the flaps of the aircraft are in no position to be flying at that angle IMHO

Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 9:23 AMI’m calling shenanigans also – despite how cool it looks – The shadow of the tail fin is coming directly along the line of the plane. This tells us the main lightsource is basically behind the plane and for my mind the only source bright enough to give such a clear shadow is the sun.

Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 9:27 AMAhhh, okay, so the flaps are wrong, there’s no vapour trail, it’s to low…
How about the fact that the pilot would have need an extension ladder to hang out the window to get the shot!??!
Yes, it’s a brillant shot and it’s fake.

Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 9:29 AMAircraft looks like something out of FSX Flight Sim or X Plane

Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 10:38 AMLook between the engine and the wing just left of the engine mount. You can see part of the undercarriage leg. So definitely a composite image, probably an edited ground shot of the aircraft overlaid on the city.

Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 11:13 AMYeah, it’s definitely shopped, I can tell by the pixels, and having seen a few ‘shops in my time

Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 1:00 PMyou don’t think the day-lit plane over a night time city is a bit of a give away?

Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 4:30 PMIt also has a pretty obvious mask round the bottom of the hull, no real photo with that depth of field has such clearly defined edges

Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 8:57 PMIt is definately shopped. Main image is taken form the observation deck at the Shanghai World Financial centre I have virtually the same shot sans aircraft. You can see the tip of the Grand Hyatt and the Pearl tower.
Clever but very fake.
