These classic aviators never get old. Now they come with three sets of inter-changeable lenses for $US230: Mirrored, gradient and polarised, each 100 per cent UV-protected and in their own lens cases. [Sunglass Hut via Uncrate]

Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 1:44 PMMirrored lenses were only cool for about a year back in the 80s. Then they went back to being redneck. They’ve only resurfaced as “ironic”.
Classic aviators should always be dark.

Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 3:45 PM$230 for sunglasses?
You gotta be nuts or way overpaid. Probably both.
I’ve owned Ray Bans and Bole’s in the past and the best sunnies I’ve ever owned have always been the $20 -$30 jobbies you can pick up at the local pharmacy.
Here in Oz ALL sunglasses are required by law to provide 100%UV protection or they are not allowed to sell them.

Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 6:22 PMPeople buy designer sunnies for the same reason they buy brand name bags and fancy shoes. And compared to those vices, $230 for a pair of shades is actually fairly palatable.

OR…
Maybe you just have to have a bit of a fashion sense and appreciate sweet looking sunnies!
And since when are sunnies about UV protection??? Pretty sure you wear sunnies to look awesome, and stop glare in your eyes, as these Ray Bans would definitely do. You don’t walk into a store and say, “Excuse me, I’ll take the pair that offers the absolute best in UV protection, I don’t care what they look like, I just want my eyes behind something that are impenetrable by UV.”

That’s exactly what I do, the pair I ended up with may not be the most fashionable, but they are definitely the most effective -

Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 11:31 PMApart from being an advertising piece, reflective lenses are not worn by pilots as they create black spots within the cockpit.

These Randolph Engineering glasses are the ones that NASA, Top Gun and RAAF pilots use. I picked my pair off ebay for $90. Cheaper from overseas as well.
A LOT stronger than any pair of overpriced Ray Ban stuff.
