While many people saw Microsoft’s new wireless racing wheel peripheral and questioned its design (a “double-ended dildo for cyborgs”, as one commenter put it), Microsoft has just announced Australian price and, full kudos to Redmond, Australia isn’t actually getting screwed.
The $US60 peripheral will ship to retailers from September 26, and will have an Australian RRP of… $59.95, or the same figure as the US market. Even factoring in the exchange rate and GST, it seems that for once Australia is on the receiving end of a good deal.
The bigger picture here is that if Microsoft can do it, why the hell can’t everyone else?

Still not going to buy it, but it’s a good start.

Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 12:38 PMThe pricing is possibly an apology to Australia for the continual delay in Voice Recognition for Kinect…
Where the hell is it and why aren’t we able to get any information on its release.

Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 12:54 PMWell… @xboxaustralia have just tweeted that we will get voice recognition “before the end of the year”. So sometime in the next seven months we might get a service that finished testing last year and we were promised in the first quarter of this year :/
However some are suggesting that you just change your regional setting to US and it will work now. (don’t have a kinect yet so can’t test myself)

Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 1:46 PMWell that’s a nice change.
How the hell does it work though? I thought I read somewhere that it ISN’T motion control, so without something to attach it to I don’t get how it works.

Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 3:31 PMIf it uses gyroscopes, is it still considered motion control?
