Remember the days when Telstra used to be completely stingy with data regardless of what plan you were on? Those days are even further behind now, with the company doubling the included data with all home bundle plans.
The amount of data has at least doubled from the previous options – from 2GB to 5GB, 25GB to 100GB, 100GB to 200GB and 200GB to 500GB. There are five bundle plans on offer, with a variety of home phone options. Pricing ranges from $89 a month to $159 a month on a 24 month contract.
Given the growing amounts of unmetered content from Telstra – including Foxtel on Xbox and BigPond movie rentals – Telstra is looking better and better. Maybe not quite as good as its competitors yet, but better.

Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 12:45 PMKinda sucks there’s nothing between 5gb and 200gb!!
Will people on the old plans be upgraded automatically?
Sean
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 12:51 PMummm… what about the 100gb that was increased from 25bg???
StevoTheDevo
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 12:52 PMYou mean apart from the 100Gb?
Andrew Palozzo
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 1:28 PMFunnily enough the 100gb is more expensive then the 200gb plan because of the phone they bundle with it
Glenn
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 12:47 PMWhat about those of us that don’t have the bundles, but rather a stand alone phone and internet connection (And only phone cause the service is required for the ADSL)?
Travis
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 1:24 PM*____* Bundle your home phone and Internet…. still good price.

Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 1:03 PMHoly balls! This is awesome! Was already going to swap over to Telstra 200Gb plan in the next few weeks, but this seals it! :D
ryan
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 1:05 PMAnd for existing customers?
Chris
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 1:16 PM+1. I’m on 200gb and want 500!! 200 would be good if they weren’t the only company on this entire planet that count uploads as well
Sean
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 1:20 PMRing them and ask to be changed to the new data bundle. They “should” just do it for people regardless but they will only change you if you call and ask.
Rhys
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 1:26 PMYeah Nick? What about us? :)
We just got the 200gb plan. After having Telstra screw us around and reimburse us over a grand!!! (sound horror music) I think we will be jumping up and down to get the 300gig upgrade :)

Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 1:47 PMExisting customers can sign up to these bundles right now.
There is no contract break fee as long as you stay with Bigpond (you are free to change plans each month you like).

Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 1:12 PMSo does this mean i’ll get upgraded to 200GB a month? Since we’re on the Home line/100GB Internet/Mobile phone bundle for $128 a month. If so that’s pretty sweet. Not gonna complain either way, honestly.
Jason
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 2:32 PMvirus…im on the same plan. i rang up and they told me i could get the 200gb plan for 128 but would lose $20 in discounts i have on my current plan….they always screw you! im looking into all the bundles now because i was told the home tv complete bundle might be better

Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 6:03 PMI emailed them, they said I can upgrade for free and would not incur any extra costs. Apparently cause our plan + line rental comes to 88 bucks we were eligible.
If they didn’t clarify everything and the bill is higher, they’re getting an earful.

Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 1:13 PMGIZMODO, you forgot to mention the FREE T-BOX WITH EVERY NEW BUNDLE!
Brad
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 1:14 PM* Free T-Box with those prices that you mentioned in the article
Mark
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 1:17 PMOr get unlimited on TPG for $30 with a 6mo contract. Sure, I see how this is competative. /s
Chris
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 1:57 PMI know I am dead against bigpond but alot of exchanges you can only get Telstra as all the ports for other ISP are full etc, so it’s good to know that if you are like me in my new place and have no choice but to go with Telstra then at least Incan get a half decent download limit unlike thier plans 12 months ago! But yea if I could then I would def not be with bigpond for Internet

Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 2:26 PMI signed up to that shit plan, and i can not torrent and browse the internet at the same time (turn torrents off and it is ok)
my DSL line says 9mbps, but i get MAX .5mbps!!!!
so my torrents are going at about 40-300 mbps….taking FOREVER (all the while i cant browse the web)
with bigpond i never had this problem (just moved into a new place thats why the new plan)
i am going back to them soon!
Mark
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 1:22 PMoh,. and you should probably check the timeframe on the NBN rollout to your area before signing up for 2 years… anywhere. No doubt ADSL prices will plummet as soon as faster alternatives become available.
Ryan
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 1:31 PMI just spoke to them, as usual they are bending over customers that are still in contract with them. They squirmed out of giving me the deal because my phone + broadband bundle isnt their definition of a bundle..
ozboy
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 1:33 PM$89/month for bundled 5GB plan?
LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL
Its wonderful to see their share price diving…
wsDK_II
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 2:26 PMshare price going up buddy, learn your numbers!
also, that $89 plan is for people who want a phone, not much more, but why complain about that when you can get $100 for 100GB?
damo
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 2:29 PMIt’s $89 for the whole bundle, not just internet. WTF you’re supposed to do with only 5gb though I don’t know.
Mike
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 1:37 PMWhy is there a 5gb plan that costs $89 and $10 more you get $200gb??!?!?!
Jason
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 1:45 PMyou have to call up and get them to change it but you will be re-contracted so you’re locked in to the full time period again.
if you do nothing, your bill should be less expensive as they’ve just made each plan cheaper ie. the new 200gb plan is the same price as the old (current) 100gb plan (which in turn was been decreased about 20-30 dollars).
hope that helps!

Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 1:45 PMI’m currently on a 50GB Telstra bundle. Does anything change for me?
Rod
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 1:47 PMHow did we end up going from not nearly enough quota to more quota than I rationally know what to do with?
wsDK_II
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 2:27 PMWe changed :D

Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 2:42 PMAs a cynic, Telstra have decided that there is more to do on the internet by inventing more to do.

Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 2:14 PMI don’t really know how the whole thing is worked out for us, but we have Foxtel, Bigpond and home phone all through Telstra. I don’t think it is bundled though, should it be?
We only get 50gb and I would really like to get 100gb or more.
Nolan
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 2:18 PMI’m on a 50gig plan, bundled with a home phone and mobile, why isn’t this getting upgraded?
Matthew
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 2:19 PM@ozboy, Mark
These are Cable prices, not ADSL2+… hence the $89. You never get the 24 Mbs promised by ADSL2+ as the speed significantly decreases over distance. Cable you get relatively constant speed for a great distance.
Im on the 200 GB plan at the moment, great to hear that its being upped to 500 GB.
Jason
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 2:23 PMJust called them my self, was on the 100g Elite Liberty Plan, now on 200g for the same price.
Granted, it requires resetting the 24mth contract.
But that isn’t a problem for me until Internode get their hardware down to my exchange.

Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 2:42 PMHey Telstra, how about bumping up the wireless g plans for those of us that can’t get ADSL?
G D
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 2:49 PMjust called them and they advised me to change from the 100gb home saver to 200gb home saver i need to start a new contract, ridiculous

Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 3:40 PMYeah, no.
It’s just a way to get people hooked into Foxtel and/or a mobile plan with them for 2 years. If anything this makes me think more about ditching Telstra and going to someone that offers a better deal without crappy bundles.

Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 4:47 PMGreat – Just what we DON’T need to have happen at an exchange that is already congested. In November last year when every ISP started giving away free data ponies our internet throughput dropped by half.
I’d love to see infrastructure and backbone announcements at the same time. Can I have some fibre please?

Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 6:15 PMHaving escaped Telstra’s evil clutches about three years ago (now with Optus), I’m dreading the possibility of being forced back to them when I move house soon. (I sense the estate developers may have stitched up an exclusive deal with the Big T – ugh!). I wonder whether their sh***y billing practices (especially BigPond) have improved since I dropped them like the proverbial hot rock?

Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 7:26 PMHey Guys,
Some of u have been commenting regarding the contract length and that u have to restart a new contract. Frankly, there is not much of a difference as long as you are happy with the service. You still have the flexibility of changing your Bundles once in a month.
For some who commented they have Foxtel, Internet and PSTN with Telstra and are not in a bundle, I suggest them to call Telstra and discuss the options!
If you have Foxtel Platinum HD there is no point in paying $130 for the plan when in a Bundle you only have to pay $110.
So its a saving of $20 every month.
To clarify, the Bundles don’t come with a T-Box, you can get a T-Hub instead and if you don’t want any of these devices the cost will just go down by $11.
Taking into consideration the launch of Foxtel On T-Box in the near future, the Bundle Deals look pretty sweet!
To answer why a 5Gb Bundle is $89 and 200Gb $99: Its based on the PSTN usage as with former you get unlimited Local Calls and capped STD but with the latter you have to pay around 30c for a local call!
