Surreal Lake Full Of Frozen Bubbles Is Actually On Planet Earth

It’s hard to believe that such an alien sight exists on our Pale Blue Dot. Photographed by Emmanuel Coupe, this photo shows frozen gas bubbles in a Canadian lake. In his own words:

This image was taken in winter time in a arid area of the Canadian Rockies. Temperatures where below -30 degrees Celsius yet because there was no snow fall the surface of the lake was uncovered allowing me to see and capture the bubbles (gas release from lake bed) that were trapped in the frozen waters.

This beautiful photograph demonstrates once again that, while there must be a million planets like ours out there, Earth must be one of the most amazing places in the universe. [National Geographic]

You think you’ve got a handle on what mother nature can do, and then she throws this at you! Just amazing!
