Sony Giving Itself Three Months To Become Number Two In Tablets?

Gizmodo AU

Reports are hitting the internet today that Sony’s S1 and S2 tablets are going to start hitting shelves (in Europe at least) in September. That doesn’t give the company long to become the second biggest tablet company this year, does it?

The device is expected to ship through Sony Direct stores in Europe, UK retailer John Lewis and a third, unnamed retailer, according to Engadget, and will be available for preorder in August.

I guess Sony have been a little caught up recently, but they’re certainly coming fairly late to the game in the Android tablet space.

    Well, assuming they get it right it shouldnt be hard.
    so dear sony, please bake the following cake;
    -Micro USB connectivity, WITH CHARGING. a proprietary connector will make you exactly the same as all the rest. Selling a tablet or phone with a proprietary charger is an obvious attempt to milk cash from your customer with accessories, People will play more for a tablet that doesnt complicate their lives with the addition of an obscure 19 pin, s shaped, coded connector.
    -latest android version (whatever that may be at the time), and if you put a skin over the UI, please make it light and fluffy.
    -Micro SD expansion
    -battery life at least as much as competition.
    -put camera megapixels as your lowest priority, I mean honestly, who buys a tablet to take awesome pictures to stun their friends, who cant just pull out their real camera or smart phone for that task?

    Seriously, keep Sony away from the Android market – they have absolutely no idea what they’re doing…

    price will be the major issue .. sony laptops are generally more expensive .. if its the same with tablets they will not gain as big a share of the market as they are planning on .. so sony .. make them affordable and expandable and we will think about giving you a go.

    Not a Sony fan ever since my DVD drive and TV bit the dust a few years ago and Sony after sales service STUNK big time. Couldn’t even read their own Blue Ray DVDs. Their on-line security has been negligently disasterous. I don’t really hold out much hope for their entry into tablets – probably over priced and under spec’d. Toshiba’s little beaut has piqued my interest.
