ISS Lamp Illuminates When The Space Station Is ‘Near’

Nathan Bergev wanted to know when that manmade wonder, the International Space Station, was shooting by above his head in orbit, so he did what any skilled tinkerer would do: He built a lamp that lights up whenever it’s overhead.

Bergrev provides the full source code for this project as well as this brief, inspirational note:

The International Space Station (ISS) is a marvel of current technology and humanity. Sadly, we often forget it’s there. This light sits on a desk and lights up when the space station passes overhead. It stays lit as long as the station is more than 10 degrees above the horizon. Being reminded that there are astronauts doing science over our heads every day helps reconnect us with our space program.

Kind of like Sting, no? The blade from Lord of the Rings, although making the recording artist light up like an ISS Bat-signal would be pretty remarkable too. [Mechanical Integrator via MAKE]
