Is Apple Refunding Users For Final Cut Pro X?

Final Cut Pro X, a re-imagination of how video editing should be, or a botched release beyond any usable recognition, has certainly incensed its share of professional video editors. According to EOSHD, Apple may be refunding copies to placate them.

A user received this email from Apple:

“Moving forward, I understand that you are not satisfied with the app “Final Cut Pro”. I can certainly appreciate you would like a refund, and I would be more than happy to help you out with this today. In five to seven business days, a credit of £179.99 should be posted to the credit card that appears on the receipt for that purchase.

Please note that this is a one time exception because the iTunes Terms and Conditions state that all sales are final.”

Another got a similar note from an iTunes support employee:

“Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding your email, as we have been receiving higher volumes than usual. This is certainly not the customary time for a response and your understanding is greatly appreciated.

I’m sorry to hear that the apps “Compressor” and “Final Cut Pro” you purchased on the Mac App Store is not functioning as expected. I know how special your purchases are and I regret for the inconvenience caused. I will try my best to resolve this issue.

Garrett, at your request, I have refunded the apps and in five to seven business days, a credit of $US380.08 should be posted to the Visa card that appears on the receipt for that purchase.”

Have any of you guys gotten a refund on FCP X? Let us know! [EOS HD via CrunchGear]

I thought apple adjusted the itunes store, for apps at least, to where app creators had to honour a refund within 30 days of purchase.

I realise this maybe a US article, but surely they have some laws in place in regards to ‘all Sales are final’. All sales aren’t final, they are bound by the legal requirements of the country in which they are sold under. elctrnic or not, if they fail to meet the requirements of the buyer or not living up to the claims made… then refund it up…

I live in Sydney and received my refund in my account this morning after making a complaint on Friday afternoon.
    Fairly fast turnaround.

“I understand that the applications, “Final Cut Pro” and “Compressor”, that you purchased on your account are not functioning as expected.
Damian, I have refunded the purchases for you. In five to seven business days, a credit of 372.71AUD should be posted to the credit card that appears on the receipt for that purchase.”

    Easy as that.

The fundamental flaw is that you cannot download a demo/evaluation version. Until Apple does this then they will have to offer refunds for people to whom the software is not useful.
