GE Has New High-Spec, Low Cost Cameras

title=GE may not be the first company you think of when it comes to digital cameras, but its new lineup of low-cost, high spec cameras may be of interest to anyone looking for a budget companion camera to their SLR, or just something for your nanna to play with.

There are three new snappers in the lineup, which are set to start hitting Australian shelves from August. Starting at just $129 for the J1456W and ranging to the lofty heights of $249 for the 14MP, 15X optical zoom G100 Power Pro, it’s clear which end of the market GE are targetting here. But from a specs perspective, the cameras aren’t half bad:

· GE G100 Power Pro: The GE G100 is a compact model bridge camera in the mega zoom category with 15X optical zoom, 14 megapixels and is the perfect option for the photography enthusiast moving from a point-and-shoot to a more powerful camera. Aptina™ A-Pix™ CMOS pixel technology allows the G100 to shoot high-speed photos (10fps) and advanced high-performance 1080p Full-HD video. A built-in HDMI port allows users to connect the camera to a HDTV for instant group sharing. The GE G100 is equipped with over 30 different shooting modes and all the must-have features GE digital cameras are known for, such as a large 3.0” high-resolution LCD, optical image stabilisation and a 3200 ISO for more light sensitivity. Multi-exposure, object tracking and HDR with image blending can all be found in the G100, available in October, 2011.
RRP: AU$249

· GE E1410 Power Series: The GE E1410 boasts 14 megapixels and 10X optical zoom in a thin and stylish design. The ultra-compact camera is ideal for anything from hiking trips to weekends in the city. The E1410SW is capable of taking sharp, multi-burst photos with increased shutter speed, a direct result of incorporating Aptina™ A-Pix™ CMOS pixel technology. Enhanced light sensitivity provides the best quality still images and the ability to take advanced, high-performance 1080p Full-HD video. This model is set to be released in October, 2011.
RRP: AU$229

· GE J1456W Smart Series: The GE J1456W adds a second rechargeable Lithium-ion battery model to GIC’s best-selling entry camera range, the GE Smart Series. This model packs easy to use features including: smile, face and blink detection; red-eye removal; 720p HD video capabilities and award-winning pan-capture panorama shooting mode with a new 28mm wide angle lens. The GE J1456W will be one of the most affordable 5X zoom, Li-on cameras on the market and is set to launch in August, 2011.
RRP: AU$129

Of course, as with any camera, specs only tell a fraction of the story, so we’ll have to wait and see how the camera performs before forming any real judgements.
