Apple’s iCloud Might Only Stream Music Purchased in iTunes

Apple finally agreed to terms with Universal Records, who was the last of the four major labels holding out for their iCloud/iTunes streaming music service.

This gives Apple the streaming rights for a large chunk of songs, which they’ll likely use to match whatever tracks a user has in their library. And according to CNET, they’ve also struck deals with other major distributors, which will give them access to the independent labels as well. [CNET]

Nothing in the article refers back to the headline. what information suggests it will only stream music bought in itunes?

This is Apple we’re talking about here. It’d be very surprising if they allowed non-iTunes content.

I think in this case if they only allowed purchased iTunes tracks to be streamed it would be the music labels. If music labels aren’t getting money from it, they won’t allow it, it’s the way they are.
Apple will get the blame but I’m betting they had no choice.

If this is true, then approximately 0 of my tracks will be available from my iCloud (out of 25GBs of music ;) )
