Well, this is awful. An Indiana Amish woman died while doing laundry the old fashioned way – over a flaming pot of boiling water. It appears the flames got out of control, consuming and killing her with burns. Well.
Police say the accident occurred when the woman added more kerosene to the equation (don’t do this), which exploded before her. She rejected hospital treatment in favour of Amish home remedies, which might have hastened (or caused) her death. Either way, as mentioned, awful. Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 10:01 AMI know how we let the Amish be, because of how quaint and harmless their culture is, but it’s almost like condoning people not vaccinating children, it’s harm through inaction.
Amish suffer more infant mortality than anyone else living in an industrialised nation, shit like this happens, they’re the target of bigotry etc.
At what point can people say that it’s no longer just a folksy culture and that they’re not just living in a colonial themepark but real people are being affected by these communes.

Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 11:59 AMaaaaaand this has what exactly to do with gizmos, gadgets, computing and tech?
Seriously are you drawing the conclusion that just because this woman was Amish it deserves a mention in a tech column?
Sure it’s a sad story but honestly, WTF is it doing here?

Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 1:18 PMAn “Indian” Amish woman? Did she live in India or was she a native American? I do believe she was neither and in fact she was from Indiana.
#correction Indiana
