Is The World’s Most Expensive Photo’s Value Deserved?

I’m not so sure, truth be told. I do like a lot of what photographer Cindy Sherman does; her photos always feature her as the subject, dressed up in storytelling mode. But is this one worth $US3.89 million?

That’s how much Untitled #96 sold for this week in an auction at Christie’s, beating 99 Cent II Diptychon by Andreas Gursky, which sold for $US3.35 million before the recession in 2006. While beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I have to say I prefer a lot of Sherman’s other work to this one, which was shot sometime prior to 1981. [ARTInfo via Pop Photography via PetaPixel]
