EU Committee Wants To Ban Everything Wireless In Schools

A new EU proposal entitled The potential dangers of electromagnetic fields and their effect on the environment seeks to ban all wireless transmitting and receiving devices near and in schools. That means mobile phones, wireless phones, and worst of all, Wi-Fi.

Baby Monitors are also labelled as suspect. Sorry, student mums.

Officials cite no basis for the ban, but claim that waiting for evidence could cause irreparable damage like asbestos and leaded gas before it. [via Electronista]

Loonies. Are they going to turn off all DTV and satTV? I can imagine the howls of protest if that was suggested. What about military, police and emergency services comms? These all represent much higher levels of radio power than the devices nominated. What about shortwave radio. And just for the sake of it the cosmic microwave backbround and GPS. The Author of this paper is a nut, and the EU government is full of refugees from planet stupid :-)

So how come they aren’t concerned with the EMF from flourescent light bulbs, electrical wiring, am/fm radios, computers, printers, copiers, etc…

Bring back candles, quills and abacuses I say!

Seems like more than one abacus should be abacii, at least that’s how I’m saying it from now on.

The sun does cause health problems, especially in Australia.

I don’t think it’s completely un-reasonable to try and limit exposure to radiation that hasn’t had a chance to be studied thoroughly yet. Some people are genuinely allergic so we do know that it has at least some effect on the human body.
