Toys Use Augmented Reality For Different Personalities

These are so cute – much cuter than the Halfsies from a few years ago. The addition of augmented reality means each toy – or Suwappu, as they’ve been called – interacts with its environment differently, depending on which body part is attached.

The head of the Suwappu has the personality, with the lower-half determining the environment. When viewed with an app, the toys seem to be interacting with one another and what’s around them.

With eight characters available to collect, that’s a lot of multiple personalities to contend with. The two companies behind the toys – the British designers Berg and Japanese ad agency Dentsu – are currently exploring commercial opportunities at the moment, so with any luck they’ll be available shortly.
