This Is What A Resort Carved Into A Mountain Looks Like

What good is a resort that sticks out like a grotesque pimple in an otherwise gorgeous locale? No good, that’s what. The designers of Wadi Rum Resort are taking the opposite approach by integrating the resort into a Jordanian mountainside, which they say has “nominal impact” on the surroundings.

You’ll be able to see the results of spas and rooms built into fissures and faults when it opens in 2014.

Seems like a strange blend of Bladerunner, The Island, and the sahara.

There’s nothing Blade Runner in this at all. In fact, this is the most cliched description people will use for any vaguely-futuristic dystopian cityscape.

On the other hand, it’s a dead ringer for Vulcan (from the newest Star Trek adaption). Desert settings, geometric shapes, minimalism, etc.

Much of the attraction of Wadi Rum is that it’s so empty…not too sure about this.

It’s got a touch of Total Recall’s Mars as well, especially concerning the big windows looking out onto the desert landscape. At least there wont be a life sucking vacuum if there is a crack in one of them.
