Telstra Wildfire owners received some good news today, with the Telco rolling out the Froyo update for the Android smartphone.
It’s no Gingerbread update, but it’s still going to be some level of consolation for Wildfire owners wallowing in the pit of despair that was Eclair. The update is available over the air, but at 57MB or so on NextG, you’ll want to use Wi-Fi to get the update.

Friday, April 15, 2011 at 7:35 AM“Oh, look. There’s a new version of iOS for the iPhone.”
“When will your carrier release it?”
“What’s the carrier got to do with it?”
Google really needs to fix this. These updates should have the carrier as part of the process.

Of course, I mean “These updates should NOT have the carrier as part of the process.”
This blog really needs a comment edit option.

Saturday, April 23, 2011 at 4:25 PMUpdated to Froyo on Wildfire a few days ago. Web browsing now hangs even more, but battery life appears to have improved. Should have spent the 58 Mb on porn….

Friday, April 29, 2011 at 12:16 AMUpdating to help:
Froyo took about 15 minutes to Flash and reload, almost no user action required except a Google offer to back up to the cloud which I accepted. My pretty heavily tweaked phone (but not rooted, I was waiting for Froyo), with new home screen etc, etc seems all intact and functioning flawlessly. Don’t expect to see much difference but if my phone is any indication you should get a big boost in general responsiveness (eg screen animations are fully played out and work very smoothly). I’m getting a much better WiFi connection which is a surprise. Unlike the post above I’m not seeing much change in the browsing speed, if anything it feels better, perhaps Colonel Klink might try Dolphin Browser mini which is a stunning browser imo.
Really I have no issues whatsoever, Google and HTC have done a fine job, Telstra not so much!
