Telstra To Stream Every AFL Match Live On NextG And T-Box

Gizmodo AU

AFL fans should get ready to enjoy a wild slather of live broadcasts, as Channel Seven, Foxtel and Telstra today announce that they have joined forces to broadcast every match live all over the country through a variety of media. The most notable is the inclusion of a digital streaming inclusion that will see all matches streamed live over NextG to mobiles and tablets.

The broadcasting arrangement, worth $1.253 billion over the next five years, also includes all matches being streamed live to Telstra’s T-Box device, to customers who subscribe to the soon-to-launch Foxtel on T-Box service.

It’s impressive that the deal has such a prominent IPTV component, and obviously sets the benchmark for all major sporting broadcast negotiations in Australia going forward.

Xbox 360 is also getting 8 games live each week through their Foxtel service…

Is that confirmed? I haven’t read it anywhere else…
Sounds interesting and definitely needed addition to the Foxtel360 service.

The question is what are they going to charge for the service. Foxtel will certainly charge more for their new AFL channel.

For the Next G streaming, will we like with Foxtel have to pay a subscription fee, get cut off every 15 minutes, and possibly get disconnected if we try watching more than two fifteen minute blocks in a day, due to some (un)fair use policy?

It sucks that those of us in regional areas, outside of Foxtel service areas, miss out though. We are the ones who can’t get to the footy all the time and now we don’t even get the live matches.
