Like attaching a pair of training wheels to your bike, Steadycam Pro stabilises recording video so you get a neater, less-wobbly result. How does it de-shake your videos? With the use of algorithms, but that’s all developer Midnox is letting on. Do check out the video for a look at how much magic the app contains, and if you like what you see, you can download it for free now. [iTunes via Wired]

Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at 12:46 PMI have been wanting this kind of app for a long time. It’s great to have a handy video camera always available but unless you have and incredibly steady walk, or wheels on your legs it often comes out like the video footage taken by a drunk teenager.
I saw the promotional video and felt an aura of glee. Could this really be what I have been waiting for?
I downloaded the app and did a few test shots.
The app unfortunately isn’t as good as the promotion makes it out to be. While the shake and wobble is reduced, you end up with bad blurs and tearing throughout your video which hardly makes the trade off seem worth it.
While it’s quick and easy, I would rather the phone use it’s processing power and render the video afterwards to produce this effect at a higher standard, and would like the option to be able to import video.
I will be doing more testing as I may just have a bad sample of tests, or I have drunk too much coffee today.
Anyone else tried it?
