Saudi Arabia To Be Permanent Member Of Mile-High Club

Saudi Arabia has just given the OK to start construction on the Kingdom Tower, the world’s first mile-high skyscraper. The tower will be built in the coastal city of Jeddah and is set to cost a whopping cost $US30 billion.

Housed in the structure will be space for offices, residences, and a hotel. It’s hard to even imagine how massive this thing will be; at literally one mile high, it will dwarf Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, which stands at roughly 2,700ft. You could very well basejump to your limo downstairs. [The Daily, image credit via DVICE]

What an excellent use of the world’s resources. $30b to build a one mile phallic symbol. Wankers in the most literal sense possible.

You don’t get rich by giving money away. Are you saying you’d give that away if you had it? Not likely.

Why do people make stupid comments like why don’t they give it all to the poor? it is a stupid comment when most countries give up to 5% of their gross or net GDP to international aid.

Countries need to invest in their own infrastructure. It is expensive but the building will also become a symbol for the country, it will capture the minds of its country and inspire them and create jobs and will also service the community.

It is expensive, but services that yours and mine government provide such as health care, education, public transport are just as expensive

besides in Saudi Arabia the king gives away his own money to tribes that live far from the country’s cities so that they can sustain themselves
