Samsung NFC Olympics Phone Will Pay For Overpriced Beverages

So hang on – not only do punters have to shell out hundreds (or even thousands) to get to London, plus however much a ringside ticket will cost, and now they’re being guilt-tripped into buying a novelty handset with NFC? It’s certainly a “souvenir”, I suppose.

Visa’s got plenty more time up its sleeve to install NFC readers at cashpoints around London before the 2012 Olympics kick off, but apparently there are already over 60,000 readers in stores already. The best thing is that it’s being given to Samsung and Visa-sponsored athletes, so at least they’re getting a little something to take home other than crushing disappointment. [BGR]
