Could there possibly be a sexier concept than a transparent phone? A mobile that appeared transparent until it was activated, at which point you could control its touchscreen like a normal Android handset? This is the concept that Mobiado and Aston Martin have partnered to show off at the BaselWorld luxury watch show in Switzerland this week.
Technically, such a phone is impossible by today’s technology standards, but it sure is nice to look at. “Made” with transparent sapphire glass bordered by two titanium edges, the capacitive displayed handset connects to an Aston Martin and uses its deisplay to show off things like Foursquare friends, while cameras in the car will snap shots and beam them to your Twitter or Facebook account.
Sure, it’s so pie in the sky it’s almost funny, but I’d be lying if I said part of me didn’t want one, even if it didn’t work.

Friday, April 1, 2011 at 4:38 PMIt would be possible to produce something akin to this phone today if you weren’t a stickler for the transparent bit. Instead of being transparent, it could take a live picture with the rear camera and produce the image behind the case in real time as a streaming movie/image. The problem would be trying to keep the thing from draining the batteries or overheating and burning your hands off.
I would suggest that if the above phone becomes a reality, it might be possible to use the glass as a solar/light cell with an overlay of electrons to transmit information. You could then keep a battery storage device in the side silver rim, and using the other side to house connectivity antennae or storage.
