Our favourite stat in Microsoft’s earnings for the past quarter? That Entertainment & Devices, the division in Microsoft that makes the best stuff (Xbox, Zune, Windows Media Center, Windows Phone) has grown 60 per cent over the last year. (For a very long time, it wasn’t exactly a cash cow, which made us sad.)
You probably already heard they moved over 350 million copies of Windows 7 in 18 months, making it the fastest-selling OS in history.
Also interesting! This quarter, Apple didn’t just generate more revenue than Microsoft, it made more money, too: $US24.67 billion vs $US16.43 billion in revenues and $US5.99 billion vs $US5.23 billion. [Microsoft]

In other news, Windows phones jumped from 2% total smartphone marketshare (WP7 and winmo combined)at the start of Q4 last year to selling 10% of all new smartphones in march.
