“From the beginning men and women have been filled — and this is as true today as ever — with a desire to ‘be like God’, to attain the heights of God by their own powers. Mankind has managed to accomplish so many things: we can fly! We can see, hear and speak to one another from the farthest ends of the earth. And yet the force of gravity which draws us down is powerful.” If man wanted a relationship with God he had to first “abandon the pride of wanting to become God.” - Reuters
I guess that means my iPad is not a magical tablet at all, but a test? Anyway, at least he acknowledged gravity.
In related news, here’s a link to a decent (if not slightly dumbed down) new book I just started reading: Physics of the Future, by Michio Kaku [Reuters]

Monday, April 18, 2011 at 9:24 AMif the Catholics had their way, they’d beat us with their bibles back into the dark ages, where everyone was too scared to question faith upon fear of death. The church hates people getting smart, it only pokes more holes in their precious book.

Monday, April 18, 2011 at 3:28 PMOh another article bashing the Catholic Church… Of course! It’s by Jack Loftus… no surprise there. It might be worth actually taking the time to read what Benedict said rather than taking everything out of context…
For starters: You’ve mashed two completely separate quotes together in the article just to better support your argument…
Pope Benedict: “The great achievements of technology are liberating and contribute to the progress of mankind only if they are joined to these [positive] attitudes” From ZENIT, the official Vatican Translation
Really he’s not even talking about consumer technology like iPods, iPhones etc, but the technology which allows us to become gods, where we control who’s born with what gene, who’s allowed to die and other moral situations.
I can’t believe news companies hire gods of bias like Mr. Loftus…. If you want to rip into the Church, do it on your own personal blog… Not a companies…

Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 2:38 PMthats so true. it’s ignorance such as this that keep fueling the fight between technology/science and religion.
if they opened their eyes and ears and let go of their senseless discrimination and bias, they’d have found out that the church isn’t the same as the dark ages anymore.
