Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 7:31 AMSeriously – is that all the tax they pay?
I pay more than 1/3 of my income in *income* tax (and half of any pay rise because I am on the top marginal rate) and these guys are paying less than 15%.
And don’t mention sales tax… we have that as well.

Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 12:24 PMYeah but you’re country (assuming Australia) actually looks after you. Dole if you’re unemployed, fantastic health care if you’re sick.
Americans technically get that stuff, but not as much or as effectively as we do.

Sunday, April 24, 2011 at 12:22 AMThey pay for goods tax too, except it’s not already taken into account, so it’s a +10% which sucks.
Plus, there’s much less support and welfare, very little benefits, healthcare plans suck (pay through the roof), etc.
Australians pay higher taxes for peace of mind. So when you need a $20,000 operation to save your life, it’s taken care of by the taxes you’ve paid instead of wondering if you’ll have to declare bankruptcy.
