We peeped the tech at CES, but Eye-Fi’s “Direct Beam” magicalness is mobile – doing what the little Wi-Fi cards should have been all along. The new models skip your network entirely, creating a link between camera and mobile device.
What gadget? Lots! Smartphones and tablets will get a suite of Direct Beam-compatible apps dropped on them, allowing for in-the-field transfers. So, for instance, you could snap a photo, shoot it over to your iPad, and then edit it with the wonderful new touchy Photoshop. That’s a pretty nifty setup, whether you’re a photog pro or not. An 8GB SD model will be out for $US80 later this week. [Eye-Fi]

Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 10:51 AMI just ordered a PRO X2. You need a separate post for the Android/iOS apps that are new too. This will be massive for photographers and travelers who don’t want to carry a laptop with them.

The pro even supports automated geotagging which makes it perfect for traveling and blogging direct from your phone.

Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 11:09 PMThis looks really fantastic. I’ve given up using my expensive point and shoot digital camera as it’s too cumbersome to upload the files to somewhere. Up to now I’ve been using the iPhone 3GS simply because I can share the photos immediately.
Looks like this one is a game changer
