Casio’s G’zone Commando Takes Android Into Mil-Spec Territory

The internal specs for the Casio G’zone Commando smartphone are pedestrian: Android 2.2, 800MHz processor, 512MB of RAM, 5MP camera. But the fact that it’s a mil-spec smartphone makes it attractive if you enjoy the outdoors.

The G’zone is 810G military rated, which means it can survive rain, shock, vibration, dust, humidity, heat and cold. Furthermore, it has a bunch of extra outdoorsy homescreen widgets including a compass, pedometer, training monitor, geotracker, tidal graphs, sun/moon tracker, and a GPS-assited constellation viewer. And it will be available in the US on April 28 for $US200.

+7. Phones to Ozzie men are tools not status symbols. This phone would be the ducks guts for summoning the flying doctor after a crocodile steals your left leg. Casio must be scared of their phones being “outback” tested. Is there an app that keeps beer cold?
