Rumour: BlackBerry Messenger App Being Built For Android, iOS?

One of the features I miss most from my days as a BlackBerry user is BBM, the messaging service. If Boy Genius Report’s sources are correct though, Android users and iOS users could be messaging cross-platform. There goes your reason to cling onto your BlackBerry.

BGR’s sources are normally solid with BlackBerry stuff, so we’re putting a lot of faith into this one. Apparently timing and pricing hasn’t been finalised internally at RIM (though it’s thought the Android version will be launching this year), but it could well be a free download across the platforms. Whether RIM adds in support for sharing photos, videos and location is another guess entirely.

On one hand, you could be blunt and say that the last good reason to ever buy a BlackBerry will disappear if they launch a BBM app on other platforms. Or, like BGR suggests, it could give users a taste of what BlackBerrys can offer, and get them buying the actual hardware too. [BGR]
