We’ve all been there: tired and possibly inebriated while searching for a light switch, bumping into ghostly walls and making a general mess of things in the dead of the night. Now comes a handy all-in-one switch that has the potential to make those 4am stumbles a thing of the past.

Although just a design prototype for now, the Floor Plan Light Switch would allow you to pinpoint the exact location of each room you care to illuminate, in addition to letting you modify and change switch locations, in case you’re interested in messing with your roommate’s after a Saturday night bender.

Want. This. Now.

Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 3:43 PMthe c-bus system is alot better than this switch, why wait till your inside when it can detect who out of your family you are then have it preconfigured to light the way to the kitchen before lighting the way to your individual bedroom then turning off the lights automatically behind you, or you can just control it with your phone instead, saves the hassle of having switches altogether

Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 4:11 PMThere’s a link in the post. But it’s just a concept design for now. Someone hurry up and build the thing.

Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 9:52 PMThis seems like it would be much more practical using a touchscreen panel than physical switches…otherwise it’d be super expensive to custom build these to match everybody’s floor plans.
And then having a touch screen to control stuff like lights in your home just opens up a heap of other possibilities…

Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 10:07 PMTip. If you can’t manage to switch on the lights in your house as you move through it (The first light switch is on the wall closest to your front door handle and so on)… leave some lights on.

Friday, March 4, 2011 at 2:11 AMThe little bit that I know about household wiring tells me that it would cost a thousand times the cost of the switch to get it wired up correctly by a sparkie.

Friday, March 4, 2011 at 11:09 AMMaybe not? install coded wireless modules behind existing light switches. new panel could just be an x11 style interface to control the wireless modules. Make the main interface non-tactile, and just iluminate the section/button when on. also make the main interface with eink and backlight when hand present… would not be that expensive compared to full cbus wiring ?
