Japan Fixed This Quake-Damaged Road In Just 6 Days

Japan’s world-class transportation infrastructure couldn’t withstand this month’s 9.0-magnitutde quake, but their construction teams are still amazing. This stretch of highway was repaired in just six days by a Herculean road crew. This is the triumph of Japanese engineering. [Jalopnik]

And in australia it would cost hundrends of million of dollars, and the traffic delays are the most annoying. i’ve seen upgraded roads in my town that cost a fair few millions of dollars just for like 250m stretch of road and its poorly designed. two lanes, to one lane then back to two lanes, its just crazy. redesigning this will cost just as much if not more. And they will have to do it in the future when our town grows.

And don’t forget, they’d also toll you for the pleasure to use the ‘new’ road…

      no no its more like:
      japan efficient>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> australia efficient

I mean for every workman in australia we need at least 4 other blokes standing around watching him.

Is anyone really surprised by this? The Japanese are extremely efficient, extremely proud people.

Australians on the other hand are notoriously lazy and complain about everything.

Yeah, its sort of strange that they put up that billboard after the roadworks was done and the shrubs have awfully grown fast in that 6 days.

Guys! NWS roads are not the same as the rest of Australia! Catch up, ferchrissake!

If this happened in WA, it’d be fixed. Maybe not in a week, but certainly in a fortnight.

NSW – Your roads suck. The rest of Au – your roads rock.

Come visit QLD sometime, especially North Queensland. NSW’s roads are excellent compared to ours.

For all those who are calling ‘fake,’ I live near where this picture was taken and I can attest to the speed of the repairs done to the roads here. I had gas, water and electricity restored a little over a day after the M9.0 quake. If you follow the link to the Daily Mail original pic, you’ll see that that the damage done was to a very specific point in the road and the surrounding area was not quite as damaged.
Road repairs have been continuing non-stop, and people are re-opening shops. Folks have laid off the panic buying. And schools are back on.
