With massive queues on Friday afternoon, the iPad 2 looked destined to sell out. But did they?
We’ve had a couple of varying reports from readers telling us that either there were fewer iPads than expected at certain Apple stores or that there were still some available today.
So which is it? We called half a dozen random JB HiFi stores and had no luck at all – with some stores expecting a new shipment tomorrow and others having to wait until early-to-mid April. Similarly, the Big W branches we called were stockless.
Has anybody been iPad hunting today? Did you have any luck? Are Apple Stores turning people away into the welcoming arms of stores like Big W or JB HiFi? Let us know in comments.

Monday, March 28, 2011 at 2:56 PMI heard Apple Store Perth sold out on Saturday and were turning people away yesterday. I believe most (if not all!) retailers in Perth have sold out.
I placed an order at Target because Big W weren’t taking them. Only two Target stores in Perth received stock last week.

Monday, March 28, 2011 at 3:14 PMWent to the NSW Chatswood apple store Saturday and they had no stock. Said they had sold out the day before. Had no idea how many they had sold or when new stocks would be in. Sunday morning there was a queue up of about 50 people at 9.30am for store opening. I assume the word had got round that they had more stock.

Monday, March 28, 2011 at 4:35 PMok… now THAT is sad…
I can understand lining up on launch day… for the spectacle… but actually queuing up just to get.. basically a lighter version of last years model… of something nobody actually even needs…
SAD!

Monday, March 28, 2011 at 3:50 PMi got to the george st apple store at 7:30pm on friday and were told there was no white ipad2 left and only 64 or 16gb black is available so i left.
after calling shops everywhere (even out to campbelltown and miranda stores) like kmart, target, bigw,jb hifi but none had the white model anywhere.
one could only assume they do have enough stock in australia but just “trickling” small amounts of mixed ipad2s through to the resellers every few days to keep the hype up.

Monday, March 28, 2011 at 4:48 PMHad a chat with a sales rep at HN over the weekend while bying a new Laptop. They received only 50 to sell on launch day and don’t know when they’ll get more in. Same goes for JB HiFi in Bondi Junction. They aren’t “allowed” to phone up Apple since all the stores were told they will get it- when they get it…..get it….

Monday, March 28, 2011 at 5:16 PMConsidering that Apple stores only got an allotment of about 1000 units, it wouldn’t have been hard for them to sell out.
Most other places got allotments of 100 units or less.

Monday, March 28, 2011 at 9:05 PMthe retailer i work for got 50 units, but no white wifi ipads. we had 5 left saturday, and were sold out by sunday.

Monday, March 28, 2011 at 6:37 PMWalked into JB Hifi in Camberwell, Victoria on Saturday 1pm. Had called earlier and they said they had sold out so wasn’t expecting to get one. Overheard a sales guy said they just received some stock of Black and White 32GB WIFI and White 64GB WIFI. Picked up a 64GB WIFI. They appeared to have a few.
When I took it to the counter to pay, I overheard a staff member answer a call and said that they had run out of stock. Obviously didn’t know about the few that had come in.

Monday, March 28, 2011 at 7:03 PMI know this doesn’t really help, but I got one from Port Macquarie Target on Saturday morning, they had a decent pile for a regional store. I would expect they sold out by lunch time but are taking names and keeping a waiting list

Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 9:00 AMThere is an easy solution to this, don’t buy one!
Overpriced bloatware is all Apple are good at and you all get suckered right into thier brainwashing marketing techniquies.

Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 10:53 AMI went to Apple Store Chatswood Chase this morning. They said that they had no idea when will the stock come in.

Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 12:56 PMI have a chat with Jobs and he said it’s all marketing strategy. Apple makes people waiting and crying for their products. They have plenty at warehouse but it’s not time to bring them all to public yet.

Friday, April 8, 2011 at 12:48 AMI’m working on a website listing all iPad 2 available inventory in Australia. Unfortunately, Australian stores (unlike US, UK & Canadian) don’t seem to list their iPad inventory online.
I’ve set up links to a few stores and intend to add more this evening.
http://www.ipad2tracker.com/australia-ipad2tracker.html
Apologies for the ugliness of the site.
Thanks.

Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at 12:06 PMWas wondering if anyone knew the quickest way to pick-up and ipad now? Ordering online says 2-3 weeks and all the stores don’t seem to know when shipments are coming in, any help would be greatly appreciated…
