If you’ve noticed that your iPhone or iPod touch’s battery life has declined since the iOS 4.3 update, you may find that disabling a few services – namely the Ping social network – will help your battery last longer.
A lot of people have been experiencing these battery life problems, and the general consensus seems to be that Ping is the biggest cause. To disable Ping (and other potential battery drainers like location services), head into iOS’ Settings app and go to General > Restrictions. From there, hit “Enable Restrictions” and enter a passcode. Find Ping in the “Allow” list and slide its switch to off. You can also disable other services you don’t use – like, say, FaceTime or location services – which may also help your battery life. Hit the link to read more.

Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 10:32 AMIn my experience, it effects phones that have polling email in conjunction with ping. between email and ping, the data connection never disconnects and the battery drains quite quickly. phones with either push or no email aren’t effected. and yes the fix works. I’m not sure, however, if this issue has been fixed with 4.3.1. Apple had the work-around a day after 4.3 was released so this may no longer be relevant.
