Now Light Peak, which has been around for a couple of years, was designed as a replacement for USB, FireWire and other ports (like the SCSI, SATA and PCI Express), but as you can plainly see in the photo above, the lightning bolt icon is shown alongside two USBs, FireWire and ethernet.
So what’s going on? Either Apple’s using Light Peak for different purposes, or this photo is fake. I guess all shall be revealed tomorrow if the rumours are correct – but do tell us what you think, below. [@charavel via SlashGear]

Thursday, February 24, 2011 at 7:36 AMIf it really was a replacement for firewire and USB, do you really think they could just put that in instead? Oooh, lightpeak, my new laptop has it and theres awesome, but where do I plug in everything i’ve ever known?

Thursday, February 24, 2011 at 7:47 AMLightPeak is not currently in the mainstream and most people are currently invested in the use of USB and to a lesser extent FW. Obviously any switch to a common I/O technology is going to have to happen gradually and as people experience and come to see the benefits (or downfalls) of this new medium.
This is Gizmodo… This should have been included in your post, you shouldn’t need a reader to explain that in the comments.

Yup, that’s the mini display port alright.
Pretty obvious fake.

Thursday, February 24, 2011 at 10:22 AMnot fake. LightPeak can carry many mediums. Display being one of them.

Thursday, February 24, 2011 at 12:20 PMUm, clearly you still need the USB for at least the next few years… People have invested too much into peripherals to just scrap it
