iPad Haters Should Probably Steer Clear Of The Plaza Hotel

Allergic to iPad? Do not stay at The Plaza Hotel in New York City! Every room has one, you see, and the entire 5-star stay would most likely be ruined by your sour mood!

For those of you with plenty of dough and an insatiable lust for these 10-inch tablets, however, here’s some additional info on the custom app the Plaza Hotel has installed on each of networked wonder pads:

Replacing an older touch panel, the new app allows guests to control lights in the room, change their heat and air conditioning systems, order room service, make restaurant reservations, request wake up calls, communicate with the concierge, and even print boarding passes. According to the general manager of the hotel, their previous system, “wasn’t sophisticated enough for what we wanted to do” and they ” chose the iPad because it is a great piece of equipment that is here to stay and won’t disappear tomorrow.” – BGR

See the new app in action here in the hotel’s demo video:

Can’t wait to try it out. It’s really inexpensive to stay there, right? [Luxist via BGR]

No, I think the $47 hamburger would be enough for me to give it a miss…

The iPad is running a touchpanel app to integrate to an existing AMX Control system (www.amx.com) I would guess that it is the TPControl app.

As an ex-amx employee I can say that the iPad is at a much more friendly price point that some of the panel offerings, but with the drawback of not being a dedicated control system interface.

Wonder how many of these iPads have been used on the toilet? Sure you wash your hands, but do you wash the iPad?

Great to see hotels embracing technology and improving which can only be a good thing for the guests that stay there.
