Have you checked your Gmail lately? Better go check if you haven’t in a while, because there’s been some kind of “reset” at Google that’s resulted in missing emails, labels, folders and themes.
Google has officially acknowledged the issue, which was first reported over at the Huffington Post earlier today. The issue, while harrowing for those it affects, has touched only .29% of Gmail users, according to Google.
The most recent update from the Google App Status blog reads thusly:
“Our team is continuing to investigate this issue. We will provide an update by February 27, 2011 7:44:00 PM UTC-5 with more information about this problem. Thank you for your patience. For those Gmail users reporting missing messages, our engineers are working to restore them as soon as possible.”

One accesses the mail via a web application which could easily be the sole reason for the appearance of an outage of this kind should its configuration be incorrect or altered mistakenly; the other accesses the mail most likely via an alternative protocol which does not involve the web application for display purposes.
I guess perhaps Nicky is intelligent enough, like most Aussies, to delve deeper into the internal workings of her device to understand the difference and not just try to understand the world at a superficial level. :p

Monday, February 28, 2011 at 2:50 PMGlad to hear there are (unfortunately) others. Affected my gf’s Gmail account since Sunday afternoon–she was pretty upset as she initially thought her account was compromised and someone had deleted her emails (including Trash) just for fun.

I tried it this afternoon and it said my account has been Disabled!! Yeah great… I have written off to them just to verify that it is their issue as I have not done anything in breach of their terms and conditions.
