Hate your wife? Want to split up? Fine! There are plenty of ways to go about that. Just don’t put your wife on a list of terrorist suspects and prevent her from flying home, the way this immigration officer did.
An immigration officer tried to rid himself of his wife by adding her name to a list of terrorist suspects.
He used his access to security databases to include his wife on a watch list of people banned from boarding flights into Britain because their presence in the country is ‘not conducive to the public good’.
As a result the woman was unable for three years to return from Pakistan after travelling to the county to visit family.
As “unorthodox ways to break up with your wife” go, this definitely beats “murder”. (And as “possible plots of half-hour sitcom” go, this definitely beats “two dates at the same time”.) But it’s still a very rude thing to do!
The immigration officer was fired, and his wife was, presumably, allowed to return. One imagines they’ll be getting a divorce.
