Watch This Time Lapse Video Of Sydney’s NYE Fireworks

Gizmodo AU

Okay, it’s been almost a month since the NYE fireworks lit up Sydney Harbour, but that doesn’t make this time lapse video of the event any less enjoyable.

Starting well before the 9pm fireworks kick off and ending in the calm of the January 1 sunrise, it’s fantastic to watch the sea of lights sailing around the harbour as the explosions of brilliance light up the sky. For best results, click through and watch the HD version as well.

    Total waste of tax payers money. They better cut back on it this year, after all the natural disasters. Who gives a shit about fireworks when you have no house our running water? Prioritise, people.

    @Geoff Campbell

    The fireworks display and indeed the whole event surrounding the Sydney NYE demonstrations are not going anywhere soon. In fact I’m certain they will only get bigger in the coming years if only for one very important reason.

    The Sydney NYE Event makes money

    Well, the fireworks themselves don’t, They cost lots of money. But the image that the demonstration gives Sydney and indeed Australia brings in Millions more dollars for Australian Business, the most obvious being tourism.

    The government only spends a fraction of the tax money brought in from revenue by the Tourism industry to pay for their part of the event (other sponsors also contribute). In fact, if you take into account all of the money that is spent on the evening, the tax revenue alone from Sydney businesses would pay for the event.
