The XL1 has a 2.0 litre, 47hp turbodiesel engine, along with a 27hp electric engine. On electric power alone, it can cover 35km. More importantly, however, is that this prototype is definitely going into production, according to the German automaker. Once the car makes it out of testing, they’ll produce about a hundred XL1s, with priority going to German buyers. It will also become the most efficient hybrid vehicle in the world. Monday, January 31, 2011 at 5:12 PMI thought 47hp sounded a bit anaemic for a 2.0 litre turbo diesel, and reading the first link confirmed that is only 0.8 litres. Even if the designers ran out of time and just stuck on the back half of a 1980′s citroen, the underlying technology is very impressive, and undoubtedly the shape of things to come.
