The GizMod: The Vinyl Wrap

Gizmodo AU

We’ve spent a lot of time working on the inside of the GizMod Rukus. Now we’re transforming the outside with a high quality vinyl wrap applied by the talented team down at Autografika in Canberra.

The entire process of wrapping the car took about three days work, and completely changed the look of the car. And it was hard work – imagine every schoolbook you ever wrapped in contact, and multiply that by a car, and you might have some idea of what the AutoGrafika team managed to pull off.

We think the end results are stunning. What do you reckon?

The outside of the gizmod looks really cool. Sort of like a mix between a circuit board and android honeycomb! It would be cool if you somehow put in a rope of LED lights on the outside which travel the path around the circuit lines on the vinyl. But that would be very difficult!

Gizmodo needs to help out Autografika with their website which is really bad. I thought their work on the Rukus was pretty good so I jumped over to their website. Man, what a missed opportunity to market themselves. Hardly any shots of previous work and the gallery didn’t work at all for me in Firefox or IE8. Their products page was just a list of text.

I was curious as to how much it costs to do this to a vehicle (ballpark).

That looks pretty damned cool. I’d drive it (even though it’s a Toyota)…

Nice work though all up – entire modification process has been fun to follow.

Looks good! Tell us the price son?
I know each car and design is different, but whats the ball park on wrap verses paint (and repainting)

E-INK, that way, you can change the design & display nice messages to the drivers around you, or not.

It might be the elephant in the room but are we loyal Gizmodians going to get a chance to win this bad boy?

Now all it needs is some decent wheels to complete the look.

Hi guys, We were really happy with the way the Rukus turned out. our website is currently undergoing some changes which is why the gallery isn’t working. It will be up in the next few days. Vinyl wraps range from $2,500 for a single colour on a small car up to around $7,500 for a full colour print on a large vehicle. The average price is around $4,500. The Rukus wrap is in the higher end of the price range.

I absolutely love the wrap. It makes me wanna go out and buy a Rukus and do the same. You guys have all done an awesome job and the quality of your work is amazing. The entire car is finished perfectly. I would do the same if i had the money. Cheers guys. Keep up the good work.
