Leak: BlackBerry Dakota Specs Are Best Yet (For RIM, That Is)

BGR has a track record when it comes to BlackBerry leaks, and it’s not like we haven’t heard the model name “Dakota” before. Why then do I – a former BB fangirl – feel so lacklustre about these rumoured specs?

It’s exactly what I wanted after owning two of the Bold models – something in a similar form, but with a capacitive touchscreen. Sure, the Torch was pretty neat (for BlackBerry fans), but I would’ve rather had something in typical Bold candybar form.

According to BGR’s sources, the Dakota will be a quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE phone with Tri-band UMTS. There’ll be a 2.8-inch screen with 640×480 resolution, plus a 5MP camera with HD video recording and flash. 4GB of internal storage and a bump-up to 768MB of RAM polish it off – along with the ability to hotspot. Supposedly it’ll launch with OS 6.1, too.

Now, these specs are definitely head and shoulders above all other BlackBerry specs, but compared to the current crop of Androids, Windows Phone 7s, iPhones – heck, even Nokia’s N-Series, the specs just aren’t getting me excited. Sorry RIM, but while I still love the quality of your phone builds, I’m looking for something more in my relationships. [BGR]
