Even The Trailer For Dead Space On iOS Is Scary

Gizmodo AU

Dead Space is one of the scariest video games ever made. Not really surprising, given how much effort EA put into discovering just how to scare the pants off you. Obviously that research trickled down to Aussie development studio IronMonkey, who have created an all new adventure in the Dead Space universe for iOS. And it looks terrifying…ly amazing.

Looking at the sheer quality of iOS software launching recently, it’s going to be interesting to see exactly what Nintendo and Sony can pull out of the bag with the 3DS and the PSP2 in order to compete with this kind of quality. Especially given the iPhone version of the game is just $8.99 and the iPad version costs $12.99.

I just got this game yesterday for ios. Definitely a scary game, you wouldn’t think so with such a small screen but it does get your heart pumping. Best played with proper headphones though as the game suggests!

Been playing it flat-out the last two days. They’ve down a great job down-sizing an awesome game, so that it’s very playable and looks incredible on iPhone 4. The control system is very intuitive (being mostly invisible helps keep anything obscuring the screen to a minimum). Even most of the in game HUD\Navigaton stuff that made the original look so slick and seamless are retained or modified to work well on a small screen.

I wasn’t sure the fear factor would be retained, but it’s the sound design that makes this game so immersive (headphones are a must). When you’re low on ammo (and you frequently will be) there are many stressful moments to be had
fighting hordes of freaky mutated beasts coming out of the walls.

A cool tie-in and its making me look forward to Dead Space 2 in a big way!

Unless they treat PC users with a bit more respect this time, I won’t be buying the port as I did last time. The original was almost unplayable on a PC, and even though pretty much every PC owner wanted to rip them a new one. They just couldn’t give a crap… :[
