Online security is one of those areas that makes many people yawn. But we all need it, and chances are very good we’re all using it. Unless you’re like to live dangerously. But what are Giz readers using? And what’s the key factor in your choice of security? Hit the polls after the bounce.
Is there something else that gets you installing? Is it because it’s what you’ve always used, or maybe the influence of a Jackie Chan or a V8 Supercar driver as well?

Thursday, December 2, 2010 at 8:37 PMI use McCrapee. It’s probably a hangover from the fact I bought some Dell computers a while ago. But I have never, not once, had an infection issue on my pc’s running mccrapee. If it decides to do a full virus scan the computer can be a bit slow but slow but otherwise it just works and stays out of my way.

Friday, December 3, 2010 at 3:31 PMAnd you think you are immune? I know so many apple fanboys that think macs are so above everything else that they are too ignorant to realise that they are at risk.
Check out this list of current OS X virus definitions if you don’t believe me:

Yes, OS X is slightly more secure, but it is still not immune.

Thursday, December 2, 2010 at 11:55 PMI get calls (as many Giz readers might) from friends and family who have infected systems. Without fail one of two factors are usually at play. Teenagers in the household who don’t care or know better, downloading who-knows-what from less than reputable internet neighbourhoods. And secondly, systems that are still running factory installed (and now out of date) AV software that hasn’t been updated in 3 years. I keep telling them it is like having unsafe sex – much easier to prevent something nasty than try and treat it when bits are falling off.
