Universal Giving 3DTV Owners Some Much Needed 3D Blu-ray Content

Gizmodo AU

Months after retail stores went crazy promoting the benefits of 3D, there’s still a lack of 3D Blu-ray content available. Universal is addressing the issue by launching four new 3D packs over the next six weeks.

On December 8, 3D fanatics will be able to grab Step Up 3D; December 15 sees the launch of a documentary trilogy including Ocean Wonderland 3D, Dolphins and Whales 3D and Sharks 3D; While January 6 sees the 3D release of Coraline and Despicable Me, with the latter also including a digital copy.

Each release also includes a standard release Blu-ray version, so if you want to enjoy the film minus dorky glasses, you can do that too.

See heres the thing, you are lucky. I have a 3d laptop, useless for gaming (not nearly enough grunt), but with full 3d movie capacity. You can’t even buy monsters vs aliens in 3d from anywhere :(

Agreed. Monster House, Cloudy With chance of 3D and Imax Deep Sea have been my only options for 3 months, my wife is getting tired of me showing them over and over to friends. Apparently you can swap a kidney for a copy of Avatar 3D on ebay.

I got Coraline from eBay as it was an exclusive and I couldn’t wait – and it was worth it. Just fantastic. Finally coming out as a standalone next month. They’re starting to up the 3d releases. Also playing GT5 in 3d – it’s good in driving games for judging distance!

Nick, can you explain this to me? What is all this stuff about an “extra” 2d version? I thought if you didn’t have 3d on or a 3d telly it just defaulted to one of the two 1080 streams? What gives? The only thing I can think of is that giving you another would be less compressed, but really that would just be the same old bullshit combo rort than lets them charge an extra 5 bucks for a few cents cost to them.

    Which is it?
