The 2010 Gizmodo Gadget Award Winner: Best Camera

Gizmodo AU

Digital cameras have come a long way in a short period of time. Nowadays, they double as HD video cameras, shoot immaculate stills and have more functions than Batman’s utility belt. But what was the best camera of 2010? There can be only one winner, and for 2010, that winner is…

Reader’s Choice: Canon 60D

As expected, the camera category was a bit of a two-horse race between Canon and Nikon, with the Canon narrowly winning out with 39% of the vote compared to 37% for the Nikon.

Editor’s Choice: Samsung NX100

It was an issue of great debate among the Giz staff here, but in the end we decided to go with the camera that actually had the least number of votes from readers. The reason? The Fx lens system, which offers manual controls on the lens. In a category that didn’t really see a lot of innovation this year – more spec upgrades and minor improvements – the Fx lens system actually impressed us enough to give the NX100 the Editor’s Choice award.

Voting is still open for the two remaining categories, so make sure you get your votes in sooner rather than later!

Ummm, so readers chose an inferior body that brought nothing new to the table over an amazing product by Nikon that competes well with cameras that cost much more….riiiight.

And I’m not at all biased, I’m an avid Canon user yet I think the 60D has got to be one of their most boring cameras yet.

It’s even worse than boring, it’s a step backwards. The majority of Canon enthusiasts and pros on the forums think the 50D is actually a better camera (not just better value for money).

It was a tough decision. But in the end our decision was based on the innovation of lens controls. In terms of innovations in the camera space, this was by far the biggest in 2010, and it’s something that will help Samsung grow over the coming years.

According to the Times magazine, Sony A55 was the best innovation in the camera market because of the transclucent mirrorring system which allowed the sony’s to get 10fps. Care to comment on that Nick?
