Telstra’s Joined The Tech Support Business

Gizmodo AU

Telstra don’t exactly have the best reputation when it comes to customer service, but it’s an image they’re really hoping to change with the launch of Telstra Plus Premium Support. The service will help your grandparents install tech around the house so you don’t have to.

Essentially a rival for the guys at Gizmo, Telstra will be offering the service not just for their products, but for any technology services. The service offers up front quoting, and if they don’t fix anything, you don’t have to pay anything. Depending of the level of support needed, the service will cost between $59 and $269.

Naturally, none of you will need to use this service. But if you don’t feel like spending Christmas Day setting up your Uncle Bob’s wireless router this year, it might be worth keeping in mind.

I’m getting flashbacks of Best Buy’s “optimisation” scam… though that’s probably an unfair comparison.

Anything? Wow.. so I could get them to come over to my place and have them dial Telstra support to fix my bill. I could then watch and laugh for an hour or three.

Pretty sure this sounds very similar to their Gizmo-provided service that they recently got rid of.

    Hmm…

I was recently offered this or something like this from Bigpond. They wanted to charge me between $120.00 and $240.00 to look at why my modem was not authenticating. They said I needed premium paid support simply because my DSL connection does not have the TR-069 protocol running. Turns out, there was an outage that they were not aware of (or more likely did not bother to check). Guess how I found out…

Telstra Wholesale told every other provider that the exchange was out

I confronted bigpond support with the fact that their exchange was experiencing problems to which I was given what seemed to be a very long pause before being asked if I still wanted to go ahead and get Bigpond Premium Support to have a look at it.

Then I asked to speak to a manager, and was promptly hung up on

Once the NBN hits my home nothing will stop me from leaving
