Riven, The Myst App Sequel, Is A Massive 1GB Download

Seventeen years after Myst twinkled onto Mac computers, we now have Riven, the iOS game. Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but Riven’s broken the barrier for download size, measuring in at a bloated 1GB. Well, 1.01GB, to be exact.

Understandably, its developers are cautious in the app description:

“Riven for iOS is a VERY, VERY large application. We’ve managed to optimised Riven from its original DVD size to a little over a gigabyte. Even at that size it’s one of the largest iOS app we know of – so PLEASE BE PATIENT – download times and syncing times can be longer! It’s possible on slower iOS devices for the downloading/syncing to pause FOR 10 OR 15 MINUTES.”

Going on, they say it’s “HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you download Riven on your computer using iTunes, and then sync with your iOS device. Downloading directly to your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch is theoretically possible via a wireless connection, but… uh… well… you really don’t want to.”

The game costs $8, which sounds as huge as the download – but for fans of the Age of Riven Island, it will be well worth the wait. [iTunes via Mobile-Ent]

ROFL!! You kidding me? It might be a iOS game, but 1GB is hardly “massive”.
The game is basically a series of slides pasted together, it’s not rendered in real time. Hence why it’s not shrunk for iOS

if only there was some technology whereby you could use little cards of memory, and put in however much you like.

    Ah well. Pipe dream.

*continues playing with Nexus One knowing I can add 32gb any time*

What’s your point? iPhone already has 32gb.

Moreover, how much of that 32gb you added can be used for apps?

      Thought so.

I think he means that the iphone has no microSD slot and that in his nexus one which has a microSD card slot can have theoretically infinite memory as he can interchange the cards..
