R18+ Games Rating Looking Doubtful

Gizmodo AU

Mark from Kotaku has been a tense combination of anxiety and excitement today with the Standing Committee of Attorneys General meeting to discuss an R18+ rating for video games today. But it looks like getting the AGs to unanimously agree to common sense may be a little bit beyond their abilities.

According to a tweet from Laura Parker at Gamespot AU, the West Australian AG’s media advisor has stated that the WA Attorney General Christian Porter won’t make a decision on the classification until he has consulted with his cabinet.

While it’s hard to believe that the man could possibly go to a meeting without actually being aware of the arguments involved in the issue, this doesn’t sound promising for the army of parents and gamers in favour of the updated classification. It also doesn’t mean that we won’t see a unanimous vote. Stay tuned for more info as it happens, and head over to Kotaku to keep up to date with all the issues in their superb READY series.

How could he go to a meeting without already knowing what is on the agenda? He should have already consulted with his cabinet before he left to attend this meeting!

This is just a way of saying that he does not support it! Or is just to gutless to stand up to the Christian lobby group.

What I don’t understand is the reason the Christian lobby group is so against the R18 rating as it is actually going to make it easier for parents to protect their children from adult content. Is that not what they want?

I’m sick of one man being able to stop something that it’s pretty clear the people of Australia want.

difference here is Michael atkinson was agaisnt the rating on his belief’s and not due to voter choice, whereas the guy from WA is more tossing up the swing against him from things like the ACL and that(though i believe they only represent the small fanatical part of the religious sector and not the community at large(so there the same as most politicians)

Why can’t it just be a majority? Why does everyone of these arsehats have to agree.

Shouldn’t it be they can only block R18+ rating in their own state.

wtf!? how much does this useless waste of space get paid?

what kind of usless, lazy, terribly irresponsible person would delay the entire country getting this for another few months just because they couldn’t be bothered preparing for it!?

the only reasonable thing for him to do is vote for it. if there is even ONE of them that IS strongly informed, and opposed to it, they will down vote it and it will fail anyway. what absolute arrogance to think that someone who openly admits to having not bothered to look into the issue at all, could overrule all others, and the majority of the country!

    F*** THIS STUPID AG SYSTEM!

If approved, many people will smile.

If not, only Atkinson will smile.

Expect nothing less. The West Australian liberal party are a bunch of wankers. They’d secede if they could. They embarrass us poor West Aussies daily.
