The only Nokia news that’d make me more happy than this would be if they were building Android devices. But that’s not going to happen anytime soon. Today’s whispers come from “known” leakster Mobile-Review, who claims WP7 is on.
Russian Eldar Murtazin, who once called the Nokia N8 “an unpolished turd”, has written that Nokia’s new CEO Stephen Elop (himself an ex-Microsoft man) has been meeting with Microsoft to plan their series of WP7 devices, which the public will supposedly see in the second quarter of this year. I’m not so sure about that timing, with their first MeeGo phones expected sometime this year too, but if Nokia is indeed adopting another man’s OS, I’m going to give them a tentative thumbs up… for now. Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 8:54 AMI think for Nokia to survive in the smart phone market they need to expand beyond symbian and look at getting Win 7 and Android devices out there.

Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 9:41 AMIt’s pretty simple. Look at Samsung. They make low-end proprietary os phones (like nokia). They also make smart phones with their own os (like nokia). However, they *also* make smart phones with android and windows 7.
Remind me, what electronics brand is absolutely flogging its competition in this area?
Samsung. Wake up Nokia.

Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 9:49 AMIf Windows Phone 7 wants to survive, it needs to embrace Qt and QtQuick, not the other way around.

Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 10:43 AMWhat rot…Qt is a great idea and has excellent potential, but none of the other big players are using it and they’re doing just fine.
Nokia is speeding downhill on a very slippery slope, and they need to grab whatever traction they can find. If that means making hardware that runs someone else’s OS, then they should go for it.
Nokia has some great technology and has a lot to contribute, but they can’t do it while their customer base is running away to other manufacturers because of their godawful OS. WP7 may not be the pinnacle of OS design but it’s a lot closer than any version of Symbian to date. The N8 is great hardware but the UI is embarressingly bad.
