iView App For iPad Includes Watchlists, AirPlay

Gizmodo AU

Everyone loves the ABC’s iView service and is clamouring for it to be available on more platforms. That process got a big boost today with the launch of an iPad app for accessing iView.

The free iView app includes the full content available on the ABC’s site, including access to the ABC News 24 service. One feature unique to the iPad version is Watchlists, which let you bookmark series you watch regularly. (The ABC is looking into adding that feature to the web-based version soon.)

The app also supports streaming to other devices via a cable connection or wirelessly via AirPlay, though that feature won’t be enabled until Apple grants third-party apps the right to use the service. If you’ve had a play with iView on your iPad, tell us your take in the comments.

Tried it last night, pretty good, I am concerned about how much data usage (How much does 1Hr use?), I gather while iView is unmetered on my Mac (internode extreem) I gather it isn’t on the iPad.

If you’re using your home WiFi network and iView is unmetered with your ISP, I can’t see why it wouldn’t be unmetered.

If your iPad is using your wifi then it’s using your Internode connection, so should be unmetered. You’d want to be very careful if you were using over iPad 3G though…

        From Internode’s twitter account:
“iPad #abcivew app content is distributed on a different network (Akamai) to the website, which is why we can’t unmeter it.”

Thats a good question – I assume that it has the same problems as the ps3 native app – i.e not unmetered on iinet etc?

Still, it shouldn’t chew up too much data, as it is still pretty low quality.

Simon – if your iPad is using the same internet connection as your Mac, then it’s the same deal.

An iPhone app would be sweet too! C’mon ABC!

iView on iPad is great, but it doesn’t work with Airplay. Actually, the audio works!…but no video.

I get the same thing. I use the mirror function on my iPad. It just makes the picture smaller on the tv, it won’t fill up the screen. I’m using an iPad 2 with Apple TV.
